They have a spindle-shaped body, whitish or yellowish in color, with no evident segmentation. They possess two pairs of legs, which is typical of eriophyid mites. Under optimal conditions, its life cycle is completed in approximately 7\u201310 days.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2484\" data-end=\"2816\">It reproduces rapidly: females lay eggs on the surface of leaves and fruits, particularly near the veins. The mite is active throughout the entire tomato growing season, but infestations become more severe as the season progresses. Mites spread via wind, insects, farm workers, and tools, contributing to rapid population expansion.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2818\" data-end=\"2860\">It thrives under the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2863\" data-end=\"2932\"><strong data-start=\"2863\" data-end=\"2896\">High temperatures (25\u201330 \u00b0C):<\/strong> accelerate the reproductive cycle<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2935\" data-end=\"2994\"><strong data-start=\"2935\" data-end=\"2961\">Low relative humidity:<\/strong> favors survival and dispersion<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2997\" data-end=\"3105\"><strong data-start=\"2997\" data-end=\"3013\">Plant stress<\/strong>, such as nutritional or water deficiencies, which increases susceptibility to infestation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"3112\" data-end=\"3141\"><strong>Monitoring and Prevention<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3143\" data-end=\"3166\"><strong data-start=\"3143\" data-end=\"3166\">Regular monitoring:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"3169\" data-end=\"3232\">Frequently inspect plants, focusing on lower leaves and stems<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3235\" data-end=\"3290\">Use magnifying lenses to detect the presence of mites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3292\" data-end=\"3309\"><strong data-start=\"3292\" data-end=\"3309\">Crop hygiene:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"3312\" data-end=\"3380\">Remove and destroy infested crop residues at the end of the season<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3383\" data-end=\"3528\">Avoid moving infected plant material between fields or greenhouses; pay attention to the possibility of transporting mites on workers\u2019 clothing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3530\" data-end=\"3545\"><strong data-start=\"3530\" data-end=\"3545\">Treatments:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"3548\" data-end=\"3767\">The use of <strong data-start=\"3559\" data-end=\"3569\">sulfur<\/strong> is the main preventive and control method against this mite. Treatments with this active ingredient also have side effects on tomato <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coltivobio.com\/en\/powdery-mildew-of-tomato-symptoms-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">powdery mildew<\/a><\/strong>.
